Twelve years may seem few in the eyes of an adult, but in the mind of a stubborn boy there is no age that can contain the desire to do, the energy and the determination. And it is thanks to this energy and obstinacy that begins the history of our factory.
In 1947 Gino was little more than a child moved by the desire to discover new trades and start a journey that would lead him to find the vocation of a life. Partly by chance, partly by destiny, Gino enters as a worker in one of the most famous leather factory in the leather district in Santa Croce sull’Arno, falling madly in love with the process of leather transformation. In a post-war Tuscany, where the tanneries had found their home, that same child finds the answer to all his dreams of independence.
With curiosity and dedication, Gino begins to devote himself to the art of slow vegetable tanning in tanks, learning the ancient secrets to transform skins into real leather; during the years he spent working as a workman he has the opportunity to experiment both the technique of slow tanning in tank and the rapid tanning process. There is no competition: Gino recognizes the highest quality of slow vegetable-tanned leather and strives to found his own factory, intended as a space that could offer maximum quality and naturalness. In 1974 the dream comes true and the Cuoficio S.G. opens its doors for the first time.

Today Cuoificio S.G. is managed by me, Roberta, daughter of that boy who, with lively eyes and quick hands, has conveyed to me and Stefano, my husband, all his know-how and his passion leather treated like an artwork.
